About - Dr Jane Ansah

Justice Dr. Jane Mayemu Ansah, S.C. is a renowned Malawian legal expert, academic, and politician, currently serving as running mate to Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.

Hails from Ntcheu and a Ngoni by tribe.
Dr Jane Ansah SC, Justice of Appeal (Rtrd) was called to the Bar in 1978.Therefore, she boasts over 4 decades of experience in the legal field.
She was appointed as a Judge of the High Court of Malawi in 1997 by President Bakili Muluzi.
She served as Malawi's first and only female Attorney General between 2006 and 2011 on appointment by HE President Bingu wa Mutharika.
In 2008, she was elevated to the coveted professional status of Senior Counsel.
In 2011 she was promoted and appointed as Judge of the Malawi Supreme Court of Malawi.Then she was the only serving female Justice of Appeal in the Supreme Court.
She holds an LLB from the University of Malawi and both a Master’s and PhD in International Human Rights Law from the University of Nottingham—making her the first and only female judge in Malawi with a PhD.
She's the first and only female Judge to hold a Phd.
For good measure, she's also a dedicated and devout Church Pastor.
She's a role model to budding and practicing lawyers.
With over 40 years in the legal field, Dr. Ansah has served as High Court Judge, Malawi’s first female Attorney General, Supreme Court Justice, and Chairperson of the Malawi Electoral Commission.
